What's Being Proposed?
Greystone Manor’s owners and a developer have filed a rezoning application asking to turn a private residence (located at 222 Greystone Rd) into a commercial “residential treatment center” for clients who have substance use addiction or mental health problems. The developer envisions 25 overnight clients offered wellness services, such as yoga and meditation, plus psychedelic drug “healing center” services. Why Residents Are Concerned
Neighbors are justifiably alarmed at the prospect of transient guests and large numbers of non-resident staff disrupting their community. The property is in an extreme wildfire risk zone with limited ingress and egress in the event of an emergency on roads rated “non-survivable.” Dropping a commercial business into a single family residential, rural neighborhood raises major concerns, including:
- Fire safety and evacuation risks for neighbors as well as center clients and staff
- Limited ingress and egress, particularly for emergency vehicles
- Increased traffic on Greystone Road and nearby residential streets
- Additional burdens on first responders, including medical, fire, and law enforcement
- Potential effects on neighboring property values
- Adverse impacts on neighborhood character, privacy, and quiet enjoyment
- The precedent this spot rezoning could set for future land-use changes if approved

This petition is not a statement against addiction recovery or mental health treatment.

Wildlife
Will this affect wildlife?
Yes, and we should work to protect areas that have been homes for mountain wildlife. The promoters have told us Greystone is a birthing area for local elk and deer.
No doubt this would be disrupted with more people driving in and out of an area for work each day, more guests coming in and out, and more density of use. In the area now, you will see deer, elk, foxes, coyotes, and other wildlife – adding stress does not help to manage them.
